Leading a team - Managing Teams
These notes were taken at Rice University in a Management program held in May 2011, that was conducted by Dr. BRENT SMITH, PHD
Sit the team, and have them work together on the task, Open discussion, debate, Make the choice.
Important Note: It’s a very bad idea to start with a pool, as a simple majority emerges (3 to 2) can make the decision…
Watch out from the majority effect: People use to follow the majority opinion, even in objectively wrong issues (40% in an objective experiment.)
For any decision, people have limited information, and all participants in a meeting have different levels of information.
Right process:
1) Ground rules
2) Information sharing (everybody has to have the information available)
3) Position criteria
4) Evaluate candidates
5) Choice
Making the decisions the RIGHT WAY is more important than
making the right decisions!
Concentrate in THE RIGHT PROCESS (How should I go about making the decision) to get the RIGHT Solution.
If you are going to decent from a Goup mayority decision: PREPARE YOURSELF, have BETTER DATA!
